Residential
In March 2023 I had a fabulous opportunity to take part in a Residential at The Asylum Studios, Suffolk.
You might be wondering why take part in a Residential? In most cases a Residential gives you the opportunity to have absolute freedom to express your creative style; push yourself to experiment and try things out. To connect with your art practice and to explore without limitations.
The Asylum Studio had this vibe where creative expression was welcomed and boundaries could be pushed. Personal limitations questioned and self belief challenged. This was an environment where creativity was supported; both Emma and Philip (founders of The Asylum studio) would take time to visit your studio and discuss your work. Other artists and creatives would take the time to see you and invite you to their studios, where work was shared and problems explored.
For me this was a a spiritual journey of ‘belonging’. Having always felt a little different and ‘not quite fitting in’, a dreamer, an empath. Here at The Asylum studios I felt like I had found my tribe; where I could just be ‘me’.
The collection of work I created during the residential was this sense of connection felt during my many woodland walks and as an artist. The shapes, the texture the colours, the feeling all connected to that moment. A series artwork that evoked a sense of mindfulness and being connected.

‘Interconnected’ is one of the paintings produced on the residential. This is a painting which is made up of four panels which can be changed in direction and rearranged to produce an image which connects through lines, shapes and texture.
